What Are NBI’s Level Of Care?

At NBI, each patient’s levels of care is based on the patient’s needs. Deciding on what level of care is appropriate must take into consideration many variables including symptom severity, case complexity, readiness for change, motivation, risk factors, and the situational context. Treatment is personalized at each level of care to provide services to achieve the proper balance of individual therapy, group therapy, and parent/family therapy, as well as engagement in other therapeutic services and activities.

Our Levels Of Care

  • Outpatient Program

Patients at this level of treatment typically receive one to two sessions weekly. As progress is made, sessions often become more spread out.

  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

This level of treatment offers three sessions daily, three to five days weekly. There may be an opportunity to participate in our therapeutic milieu in-between sessions.

  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

This higher level of care has five sessions, five days a week and promotes a high engagement with our therapeutic milieu. This level of care is designed for those with more severe or complex clinical presentations.

  • PHP + NBI Ranch

This is our highest level of care. It is offered to people 18+ years of age who began their NBI treatment at the PHP level and need a place to live at and support them throughout treatment. NBI Ranch fosters independence, self-care, a healthy lifestyle, socialization, and the opportunity to practice what they have learned in treatment. Enjoyable and enriching activities are offered at night and weekends. A residential counselor (RC) is always on the premises. An NBI clinician is on call nightly to provide any necessary guidance.

  • Community Engagement Program (CEP)

Patients may transition, or step down, to NBI from a higher level of care, such as a more restrictive residential, outdoor (wilderness), or hospital setting. Within NBI, patients often step down to a lower level of care as they make progress (or step up during times when they need more support).

NBI also offers a step-down structure called the Community Engagement Program. In this program, patients continue to attend NBI at the appropriate level of care while receiving help to build their lives through education, vocational training, or work experiences. This program may include home visits to work on such goals as independent functioning, personal organization, and basic life skills.
